The year 2011 was a mixture of strong happiness and challenges. A new granddaughter was born and both Mothers were in surgeries to mend broken hips. We had a tragic death in the family which is just sinking in with my brother and nieces. I have been able to make cards and putter around with some collage. After encouragement from many of you, I was able to create art for my soul. . I have been frozen for ideas and even the simpliest of creative tasks were impossible to complete, even less attempt. Reading about your challenges..health,financial, emotional, and marriage helped me express my feelings. Thank you for your encouragement, laughs and virtual hugs. I appreciate you all.

Let me introduce my newest granddaughter..lil ladybug...born October 26, 2011...weighing at 9lbz 3oz. Her Mom had a c-section...but all is well and they are at home recovering. I have been asissting the new Mom with baby duties, cleaning etc. Plus I go on Wednesdays to help my brother with cleaning, cooking and anything he or my 3 nieces need. They call us the sandwich generation, as I know many of you are taking care of children, maybe parents and other obligations. I am beginning to think of us as the panni" group lol. I follow many of you on facebook and read your blogs. I am thinking of closing this blog, as I don't seem to have much to say plus few visit. So friends what do you think.

Autumn is coming !!

Although I can moan, kick and scream, autumn is here. We had a lousy wet summer, and for that matter spring; but what can we do autumn is here. The air is cooler, the light a different consistency than summer, and the leaves are turning colour. Autumn is not usually my most favorite. I love the crispness of spring and the possibilities of new beginnings. Summer is full of living outdoors, swimming, friends over and those magical long evenings. Many blogs wax poetic about pumpkins, warm drinks and changing of colours. Me, not so much . I guess to be honest, I dread the dreaded winter months of the "wet" west coast. So mabe this year I can fix my depression, tie up my shoe and get out into the last few days of summer. Maybe this will be the year to embrace fall..We shall see. Tell me what you love about the changing of summer to autumn? How do you cope with the blah feelings of coming winter? Take care friends. Would love to hear from you.

Due to a death in the family lil monkey and her Mom flew out to Vancouver for a week...although the time was sad, we had a fun with Maddy...off to the pool, playground and my small fountain....I woke up everyday at 6:30 to a full day of chasing her around..Grandpa took her to a festival..she loves meeting people...They flew home last night and I miss her soooo much....Maddy loves music and can be found dancing at the stores to the in-house music lol..In the picture she is helping Poppa play his guitar.. We will get to see her at Christmas. I'm counting down the days...take care friends...Helped my nieces go shopping for back-to-school....forgot the fun of it all !!!

Hello everyone...came back from a glorious 2 week holiday with my lil monkey...omg is she on the go...from morning to night..Maddy is 15 months old running, loving slides, walking in the park, playing quietly for 2 hours in the morning to let poor Mom sleep..I loved my time with her...what a gift my daughter and her husband gave me.. I slept first in a tent trailer with my DH..when he left it was the blow-up mattress on the futon...the worst part was leaving her behind..but maybe it was really the 14 hr bus ride back home lol//hope you had a great summer..lots of laughs with your friends and families...on a side-note. my sister-in-law, only 52, died last week in her sleep..My brother and their 3 young girls are struggling with why..send your love and prayers their way...take care..

I have had a busy and disjointed summer. I found this fun idea on the internet. Using a vintage pillowcase, you turn it into a lil girl's dress. Next time I will narrow the case before sewing, as the dress is way too big for Maddy. However, the making of the dress sparked me out of depression that had increased over this long wet winter, spring and part of the summer. We are packing for a second trip this year to go and kiss my lil monkey granddaughter. Hopefully, my daughter can take advantage to rest. We are borrowing a tent trailer and will soon be on our way. Missing In Action

I have been visiting your blogs, making comments etc. But after our return from Calgary in May, my MIL had a fall at home and broke her hip. Her situation was more serious than my Mom's. MIL had to have a partial hip replacement and my SIL and I have been very busy dealing with hospitals, movement to new hospitals and rehab. My dear MIL was using a walker before the accident and now we think she will be in a wheelchair and will be unable to return to her old home. I have been very busy assisting both parents. DH and I went to our trailer in the forest for Canada July 1 weekend, walked, swam, visited friends and went to a dance and best of all (lol) slept in.

On the creative front had my 8 year old niece and 5 year old neighbour over yeaterday. We swam, decorated cupcakes, made fairy wands and had a party. I love being with children. They keep me honest and caring. Take care friends...Enjoy your summer wherever you live..or winter for my friends down-under...

Well it has been a long time..we had a fab time with our granddaughter and family in Calgary. Madelynn is such a monkey..zooming around, chattering and into everything.....We visited friends in Edmonton that we hadn't seen for over 10 years..yikes..hugs and kisses to all..We were back a week when my dear Mil fell at home and broke her hip..it's been 2 months since my Mom's accident. She had to have a partial hip replacement and as she is 89... it has been a struggle for her...pain, depression and fear of not going back to her independent living..Today good news, she was transferred to rehab..Many kudos to the drs, nurses and health care workers at the hospital. So to say the least I haven't had the time or creative energy to create art..Maybe this week...hope you are all well and happy. Health and happiness to you my friends..take care..

Monday May 16 is my darling granddaughter Madelynn's 1st birthday..wow time flew !!! On Thursday DH , Sil and I will drive 19 hours to Calgary to meet the other grand parents from Toronto in a long weekend party for her. Then we drive up to Edmonton to visit with friends not seen in years. Hope the next days are happy and healthy for you dear friends, I know that many of you are battling aches and pains...some have minor surgery...so take care. PS Mom is doing fab after her broken hip. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.

My dear Mom is coming home tomorrow. The surgery was a success, she is up walking and doing her physiotherapy. The house has all the modifications in...safety bars, toilet adaptions, bed rail, shower seat, walker..etc. It has been a difficult 2 weeks, helping my Dad, getting him back and forth to the hospital, staying overnight (my sis did that)..phone calls to physios, occupational therapist, social worker, surgeon, gp,meetings with nursing and generally keeping the family in the loop. So thank you for all your prayers and good wishes. So now starts the next phase...getting up and about. !! May the sun shine on you my dear friends...take care..

My Mom fell at home this evening, was taken to the hospital and found after an xray she had broken her hip. She was transferred to Surrey Memoral Hospital and they will complete the surgery sometime tomorrow. Both my parents are in their eighties and have been living successfully at home. Please remember my Mom in your prayers. Thank you dear friends !!!!

My granddaughter and her Mom came for a family wedding in the middle of March. Due to illness anad crazy busy, I haven't had a change to post some pictures of my darling lil bug..But Madelynn is such a busy little girl I think I'll change that name to lil monkey. She is the darling of our eyes and I love her so. We are heading up to her home in Calgary in the middle of May

for her 1st birthday !!! So only 6 more weeks before I get my Maddy fix lol.

I am sooooo tired !!!!!

My darling lil bug and her Mom were here for a week..a family wedding, family gatherings, people over, people sleeping over..visiting both sets of great-grandparents, great-aunties..OH MY GOODNESS>>>>I loved every minute of it, even though I am not the world's most social person....Last time I held Madelynn, she was only 2 months old...now she is 10 months and 30 lbs..trying to walk and a go-go girl...Lil Bug and her Mom ,Dh and Sil all had colds. I haven't been sick in over +2, so now I have been sick since Saturday and on my way to bronchitis.......Thus I haven't been reading your blogs, facebook or trying any of your fab projects. Maybe next week !!!!!! Plus another good news. I am going to be grandma #2..my Son and Dear DIL are expecting in the fall !!!! Wonderful, now if only I can catch up on my sleep..Take care friends and know I am thinking of you !!!

I have mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. As a child, my Mom made it a very special day..special dinner, card for each of us, heart-shape cake with pink icing. But at school , I was very shy, fat and wore glasses. On the day we brought cards to be placed in a box and the teacher handed them out. In grades 1 to 5, I didn't receive any cards at school. When I was a mother our children always made cards for all their classmates and I sent cookies to school. Today my DH left a heartfelt card and my fav chocolate on the breakfast table. So enjoy the day and remember the lonely who could use a kind word or gesture today. Take care friends.

Where art thou Spring???

Here on the west coast of Canada, we have had a long and wet winter...grey, dull days with the occasionaly sunny one..Australia has had a summer of monsoon rains and now a cyclone..eastern Canada and the Maritimes have been hit with snow storms and blizzards...midwest USA and the eastern seaboard have had their share of cold and blowing snow....Where or where is Spring?? When I was a young mother living in the Prairies, in February, after a long, cold winter, I would buy a single hyacinth to fill the house with the crisp, earthy smells of spring..which sometimes wouldn't arrive till May/June... I procrastinated this fall and it wasn't till November that I decided to cool some bulbs in my mini-fridge..to force bulbs..the intention was for Christmas..However, today the first of 6 white hyacinth bulb has opened... my spring longing has been slightly appeased with the first scent of spring....Is winter harder to complete as you get older? or is it the memory of the smells and sights of Spring live deep in our spirit?? Wherever you live may Spring arrive soon !!!!!!!

Hello friends..winter arrived 0n the westcoast of Canada last night..we had approximtely 20 cm of the white stuff..came during the night, in very wet, and stuck very prettily to roofs, trees and shrubs..however my DH was supposed to fly out to Calgary this am, the ungodly hour of 6am...so got up at 3:30am, fired up the web site for the airline and behold the flight was cancelled. They could change his flight to for 9am, but that would get in too late for his 1 day course. DH cancelled the trip..my daughter was so looking forward to seeing him and vise-versa..and of course he would miss holding lil bug.....such is life..we hope to see her in March for a family wedding..My heart goes out to those suffering in Australia with the flooding....my heart is broken for the people of Arizona..Please send prayers, good thoughts and angels to watch over those who need our hand in love and kindness.

Hello friends !! Although I haven't posted in awhile, I have been busy visiting your blogs, wrapping Christmas presents and decorating for the holidays. The presents were sent by Greyhound yesterday to lil bug in Calgary. She and her parents are off to Toronto for Christmas. We are hoping to skype on December 25. This time of the year is hard on me as I usually get depressed, probably SAD but also too busy and I hate crowds etc. This year after a wedding and a new grandbaby, we spent too much money. However,I have had time to spend reflecting on what I am grateful for...happiness in a marriage, new beginnings for my son and dil, new birth for daughter and spouse..most of all that I am healthy, loved and look forward to each day. I am blessed by my parents, ages 86 and 87, in my life..plus my dear MIL, 89, friends of+40 years of loving and who still like me with all my warts and quirks...so all in all I have a good life of love, caring and creativity. Although, I can still feel envious with people who are better off fiancially..life is good. Thank you my blog friends for words of encouragement, laughter and sometimes just a "swift kick in the pants" as my Dad would say.....Here is the latest picture of my lil bug..she is 6 months old..Her face is blurred as she never stops moving..how cute her hair clip...tata..

We know that fall is here in Canada, as hockey season has begun. We are all rooting for our fav teams. Lil bug's Mom is a Vancouver Canucks fan and her Dad is Calgary Flames...so I found a canucks jersey at a resale store...when Lil Bug was born found cute little flames shoes...Go Canucks Go..don't get between a fan and their team LOL...Our Thanksgiving has come and gone...I am grateful for my health, sanity, and LIL BUG not neccesairly in that order. I am not thankful for being more cranky, less patient and more critical...hmmm time to sort out these feelings and get on with life. Hello Friends...I have been enjoying what is left of our summer..Here is a recent photo of lil bug..where she lives in Canada, it is getting colder by the minute, much to the horror of her Mom lol...I was feeling lost after the wedding and lil bug's birth...plus of course we spent much too much money..sigh..So I finally felt motivated to set some goals for myself..No spending money on "stuff" that I don't need....With the fall came some jobs..babysitting and cleaning a suite..so now of course I am going to be too busy...what can you do ,... I was never what you call balanced lol...I find that if I make lists of what I would like to accomplish each day, then the outcome is much better...So, as they say, we shall see..I have enjoyed reading your blogs this past summer...Enjoy the fall wherever you live, or our southern hemisphere neighbours, it is going into spring......

I have been very lazy these past few weeks...swimming...playing art with my second cousin and little neighbour..nieces over to swim and hot dog bbq..taking it easy...I finally cleaned and tidied the craft room..moved furniture, papers to recycle...but the best part of this summer is getting on Skype with my daughter and granddaughter.. I get silly, make faces, sing nursery songs..I have been talking to Lil Bug almost everyday..my hubbie and I love her soooo much my heart might burst lol... Well must get back to my tough job of sitting in the backyard, feeling the breeze on my hair and hearing children play ...take care friends...what is your idea of a good lazy afternoon??????

My son's wedding was on Saturday July 17, 2010...there were many hitches before the wedding..but the day was lovely and warm..the bride and groom pulled off a meaningful and welcoming party....they are now honeymooning in Mexico for a well deserved rest..the bride passed her RN exams and is now a full-fledged nurse..long may they be happy...

Well, here I am..waiting with my daughter..she went to the hospital..they gave her some gel meds..sent her home till 4 pm..then back to hospital for more meds..they may do this 3x.. then will do iv meds..so she is resting, and in a few minutes we will go for a gentle walk to help move the contractions along..will let you know...thanks for listening..love bettyann

Going Away For a Birth !!!!!!

I'm going to be away for awhile..On Wednesday, I will be flying to Calgary , Canada. My daughter Jenn is having her first child, and my first grandchild. Her due date is May 15..She is scheduled for an induction on the 15. I will try to help her and her partner with the birth, she wants me to be in the birthing room !!!. I have attended at 2 others births, but this is one I'm a little aprenhensive... My DH will drive up (14 hrs direct) at the end of May..bringing, if you can believe, a U-Haul trailer full of goodies, a refinished cannon-ball bed and side tables, rocking chair which is a great-grandmother's, a bassinet from my childhood..and of course, clothes, toys and gifts from friends and families.. We will acquire a crib for them...Will be back in Vancouver June6..the following week-end I am holding a wedding shower for my Son's fiancee...so I won't be visiting your lovely blogs. for awhile... WIll post pictures of my new grandbaby..I think I'm going to be called Nana..Take care friends..BYE-BYE..

Before I show you the heart of our home..I must introduce you to the keeper of the clock, refrigerator..Meet Niala..right now she is telling me that I have been keeping her waiting far too long for dinner......

We have a window by the computer..I look into greenery and because I finally have the time, plants flourish here now..

Although, it is a cool and rainy day here on the west coast of canada, or as we call it, the "wet" coast..I look forward to relaxing on our patio, greeting friends and family for B-B-Q's or having kool-aid toasts when the weather is warm..

I don't care what many people think, but I love Ikea, fresh, clean, functional and inexpensive..Here I have out to use, my hand-me-down Cuisinart, grinder, blender to make yummy drinks, and everyday baking and cooking dishes..love this island..

Here my loving husband made this area the way I wanted it to look...desk for computer..family dishes, collectibles, cookbooks, baskets..fun goodies....

Here I read your blogs, send e-mails to friends and family, pay my bills on-line (just love that), search and print new receipes to delight, filing cabinet holds address book, stamps, extra printing paper and file folders for bills, ...

The kitchen is the one that I have always wanted, open to the dining area and living room..We entertain more here than ever before ... I love to work in kitchen to see and hear my guests..I am no longer isolated in the kitchen...Plenty of room for people to circulate, check out the fridge, step outside...

A few years before my son met the love of his life, I took a class with my sister-in-law and made a wedding guest book......

Fast forward to this year, I wanted to have a wedding shower for my daughter-in-law to be....

Well, after much whining, sighing and more whining , my sister and I finally found a dress for my son's wedding.......

It is a soft plum, fits like a glove, right length and the right price....

Makes it look like I have a waist.....Now that wasn't too hard..LOL..Then on my own, I found the most seksi and comfortable shoes:

However, they cost almost as much as the dress...so after a full day of shopping I was exhausted....

Then yesterday, I went with a good friend, we have known , loved and keep each others secrets for 40 years this years...wow...anyway her daughter, same age as mine 27 and same name, except we call her JJ, is getting married also this July....well this time I dragged G kicking , screaming and whining to find a dress ...What a trooper, she tried on more than 30 outfits.. She is petite and apple-shaped and it seems that this year the dresses are made for me..who wonda' thunk that !!!..So next Wednesday, back out we go again..at least she now knows A. what looks good on her and B. what doesn't...Who knew that we could raise 4 kids and 2 husbands, have responsible jobs and yet are dropped to our knees over a "DRESS"..our DHs think we are crazy,...... they just have to rent a tux...did you know that the tux comes with shoes, socks, tie, jacket, pants and vest...NOT fair...LOL

Well ,have a great week-end...I must cleanse, fast or whatever to get ready for another round of DRESS shopping on Tuesday for MOM for the wedding..she is petite and wears a size 14..well that size is scarse as teeth on a hen.....poor Sis , she is taking us shopping....look out world..here we come...waiter i need a drink!!!!!!!!

Well of course thrift shopping is not ...Fabric is not... BUT dress shopping for my son's wedding is !!! The problem is, as my girlfiends and I say, is that we don't dress like our Moms or Grannies...or like ........So, I have a date with my loving Sis to go to a fancy mall in Vancouver tomorrow and I am crabby ...Basically, I want a plain, pretty dress that doesn't look awful or costs too much!!! Dear Izzy of Stone Spirit had a giveaway however I didn't win the prize of a lovely necklace. But Izzy decided to give something to all who had entered, 10 in all. Well of course everyone else was in the continental US, but me.. Izzy sent it off via USPS on March 5..She was so worried it had become lost. I assured her that our canadian customs make us wait for our goodies...Finally 19 days later my suprise arrived. She had made a lovely rose-quartz bookmark. I was thrilled..The stone means love and a sense of peace and changes...At the end of the pink stones is a silver tab with LOVE stamped..So sweet of her...Perfect for me. So thank you Izzy. Sorry I haven't talked to you in awhile..... I have been reading all your wonderful postings. I have been socializing with my family-Mom and Sis, friends - G. and L. Plus I have been finishing baby projects.. My son's fiance invited me to view her wedding dress...she looks so beautiful..lovely of her to invite me...

Plus, I have been working on an old wicker bassinet, that was originally bought second-hand for my birth...So I guess we can say it is old..LOL..My siblings, my 2 children and my 3 nieces have slept in it.. As you know my daughter is expecting a girl in May...So my Mom brought out the crib from her storage. I washed, lightly sanded and painted the crib. At the same time, we found a skirt that my Aunt H. made for me. The skirt is a little long as it was sewn before they bought the bed. The material is in excellent condition and hasn't yellowed.. What a lovely find..My Aunt cried when she talked about making the skirt..Sweet Memories...My DD is excitied to use it for her little girl...

Back from my quick trip south...so great to see Auntie, but she hurt her knee on the last evening...wasn't really in the mood for thrifting...My daughter is in her 30 week..so I am working on preparing a layette for her, making stuffed cuties..She lives in Calgary, Canada..Her due date is May 15, I think I will fly up that day...will be staying for 2 - 3 weeks...DH will be driving from Vancouver - a 15 hour drive, with a new crib, baby stuff, great-grandma's rocking chair, and our old pine cannon-ball bed, that DH sanded and will be re-painting when weather is warmer..This week-end I helped DS's fiance, her Mom and friend die-cut and assemble wedding invites for July 17.. We also celebrated my MIL's 88 birthday on Saturday pm..Plus of course we had to watch the gold medal mens' hockey game and closing ceremonies....fwwwwwww I am tired...so many things are going to be happening soon lol I have been picking up onesies and light sleepers...but today I got the best bargain of all...As the west coast did not have a real winter this year, all the winter stuff is on sale. My purchased a 6 month - 12 months, pink snowsuit for...$4.94 regularily $35.00.......I haven't had the urge to make cards, scrapbook or mixed-media...but maybe soon...Take care...love reading all your blogs!!!

Well this has been me these past 3 months..Hibernating and Eating..I have an internal whine going on.."I'l look fat in the wedding picturesBlah, Blah, Blah....So Today I said, enough is enough.... got my walking shoes on..yoga stretch pants, wind breaker..sunglasses..yes there was a little sun today..MP3 player..check..keys..check..library card..check..So out I went for an hour walk..BOY the first hill was a killer..then walk flat ground for awhile..down hill..then the bigger hill.."One foot in front of the other"..winding around the neighbourhood...library for books and water..off to drug store and then home...shower..lunch..

I feel better..I am so lazy sometimes..So I have made dates with friends and sister for the next few weeks... I am meeting with someone every second day..I have to trick my mind into moving again..Once I do I know I feel better. I am going to be a grandma this spring and a MIL in July..I refuse to be old and fat...Well ..here I go 1 step at a time!!!

Sewing Fun

Well I am having fun..I haven't sewn in awhile, but now that I have my new machine..look out..I like to sew fun and quick things..In the book "Sew what! Fleece" by Carol Jessop and Chaila Sekora (2007)..I found a fun pixie hat and booties.

...now when my children were born, grandmas knitted booties, hats and sweater...my daughter still have a beautiful pink cape made by her french-canadian grandma..but this grandma doesn't knit....

second one is mine..I made the size 6-9 months, so baby can wear them in the fall/winter on the prairies..

I am going to add ribbon and of course the bell on the toe..."so she will have music wherever she goes".

Should i tackle the hat???????...might be fun for a photo opp lol

I found a very cute book in the library called "Baby Gifts" by Ethel Brennan. I tried one of the ideas in the book- a cashmere sweater.... Now don't worry, the pink sweater was found at my Salvation Army for $5.00. Anyway, I cut up the sweater and made a practice run. Not too bad. I think the arms are too long, yet followed the pattern. I have to buy some pink ribbon to finish the front edges. Talked to my GF and I am going to x the next one by 1.25, thus I will have a lovely sweater for my grand child to be...Love the idea of cashmere so decandant for so little price...This year is the year of me taking chances and doing art outside of my comfort zone. Boy it's fun! I am also working on felted blocks, cut from shrunken sweaters.Off to the cutting matt..lookout women running with rotary scissors!!!!

Hope your Holidays were happy and safe. We celebrated a french-canadian Christmas Eve at my SIL's new home with 30 people...... Christmas Day dinner was for 12 at our home this year....... My daughter Jenna celebrated Christmas with her partner's family in Toronto, Canada.....I ate too many goodies, talked to all my relatives and slept too little. ....However, everyone is happy that we had the chance to get together as our parents are in their middle to late 80's and we are enjoying each day as it comes...... 2010 is the year of my son's wedding in July, and Jenna having a baby in May.... Right now my credit card is being hidden by DH and I am in a savings mode. lololo.....Take care all and talk to you in the New Year...

We decorated the Christmas tree on Sunday..I bought 3 new ornaments, a pair of little skates, and 2 cute owls..Last year I decorated the mantel over-the-top..this year I kept it more simply..not as cute as many blogs I have visited, but when all the candles and lights are on it is cheerful...take care only 10 days to Christmas ..Are you Ready?? Cooking Up a Storm

I was up at 5:30 am today, as I babysat the little munchkin next door for an hour.. At 8 am, we went out for buttermilk pancakes and lots of coffee, and of course bacon. When we came home, I was in a cooking mood, you know the feeling. I first made almond-orange biscotti, with orange-flavoured liquor; plus I made a delicious turkey, carrots, turnip, bok choy and soba noodles..I love throwing unusual goodies into the pot. I really don't like soup much; but my hubby loves it and as he has been working alot of ot and has diabetes, the soup works as a good lunch. When he came into the kitchen area and saw the liquor on the counter, he asked if I had put it int he soup...LOL...maybe next time..I have made the best beef stew with tequila, hubby doesn't like his booze being used that way !!!! Well better go and see what other mess I can create in the kitchen, oh wait, I have to find the counters and sink first !!!

Well It has been awhile!! Hubby and I went away to Vancouver Island for a few days of vacation..what with a lay-off, gaining a job and getting a new job, holidays in 2009, longier than a week-end weren't in the cards ....we went to Qualicum Beach, stayed at a honeymoon cottage, right on the water,.. with a fireplace, jetted tub in the bedroom..beachcombed, dinners, art festivals and talked..we now like each other again lol..now we are back I am trying to trap and save those holiday feelings..weather has been miserable..rain, rain, rain, and more rain..my Dad says to check for webbed feet....I have been enjoying visiting many blog friends and seeing what they are up to during the pre-christmas season..Must go and get to some art..Mom and Sis are coming for lunch tomorrow-chicken caesar salad, cheese and olive bread, lemon-ginger tea and little ginger-bread men..talk to you soon..take care..Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends..

Delicious Ribs

I love ribs..today I made smoked ribs in the oven..cooked 3 hrs in a 225F oven , on a rack over a small amount of water, made a rub, and "mopped" the ribs every 30 min. with a wet sauce...made my Mom's buttermilk cornbread....the ribs were great, pink inside, juicy and spicy..will keep this receipe...cornbread warm..this is all that is leftover lol!!!!! I think that in another life I was a southern cook...

I spent some time with my Mom last week...we are so very different..I always ask my parents if I'm a changling..my Mom is very organized..never met a number she didn't like..not me...I am messy, artistic, head-strong and crazy...so anyway we cleaned out her linen closet...now she gave me some lovely lines that belonged to my grandmothers..one was Ukrainian and the other English...some fabrics I needed to soak in gentle soap to remove decades old stains..

this pillow case was given to my grandmother by her mother and she received it after she died in 1931, I have a lovely note attached:

Well I finally did it..I made an apple pie that smells tastes, and looks good. All thanks to Teresa of French Poppy. She shared with me a great receipe and it worked. I have given birth and adopted children..in my various jobs I drove a 25' bus..collected taxes, dealt with lawyers and worked with hospice...but thoughout my married life I couldn't for the life of me make a pie. My Mom makes the best pie..but my first pie..well..we couldn't cut it, it was so hard...but today I did it!!!!! Now I wonder what my next great accomplishment will be..maybe be a nicer person???

Summer..Barbecues, family gathering ,birthdays, weddings, swimming outdoors, long hot days and nights..I read books like: Baking Cakes in Kigali..206 Bones..The Power of Acceptance..French for Dummies, many cookbooks.. Movies-Harry Potter, Julie and Julia (loved both)..today I received 20 lbs. of freshly picked apples, made apple pie and apple crumble..it rained all day..the tree in the back has lost its leaves..for dinner we had fall food - baked chicken, rice and steamed cauliflower with asiago cheese..oh well.. I will go kicking and screaming into fall and winter..I wear shorts in the house until snow... enjoy the last few days of summer..take care friends..

The cruise-in is an opportunity for old car lovers to come and see cars from Canada, Washington, Oregon etc all gathered in one place.. What a lovely Sunday..Hubby and I slept in, had a leisurely breakfast, read all the papers, listened to music, watered the garden.. Hubby cleaned the house.. what a great guy..Michael and Meghan came for her birthday dinner.. She is a sweet girl...enjoyed the talks, wine..bbq steaks, spinach salad, fresh corn on the cob....I am excited about their wedding plans...lovely day...have a great week friends..sending hugs and love your way...

So this is what hell feels like..here on the Westcoast of Canada the temperature is +100 today.. plus 90% humidity....so there I was in the deep of winter dreaming of summer and bam I am now hiding in the a/c bedroom or car lol..we are swimming right after work and eating bbq or salads and secretly longing for the cooling rain.. hope everyone is enjoying their summer...I love peach-tea popsicles...

Busy yesterday helping Mom with community garden and house garden, where does she get the energy, after watering sat in cool shade..humming bird came to visit hovering just in front of us , it seemed for minutes, that;s what it is all about, the messy, the unexpected and the joy of nature..well I had better go ..take care Enjoy your day!!

Week-end Together

The Mister and I went to our cabin in the Glen, Maple Falls Wa. , spent time together really talking and listening, swimming 2x a day and walking and camp fires..On the Saunday we drove to the base of Mt. Baker, haven't been there since I was 10..snow at the side of the road..clear mountain streams, fresh air and time to think..good time was had by all....

Been busy taking my MIL to heart Dr. new meds... hope all will be well...Spent time with my parents over the last 2 weeks, helping etc. Son's engagement party..great to meet new friends and new family, and tomorrow funeral for Al's Auntie Agnes, god rest her soul, she was such a funny and kind lady.. Take care all..we are going away for the week-end to Maple Falls Washington..we have a trailer at The Glen..swimming, walking and camp fire...Have a good week-end !!
